about

‘Delany' was written when Lach and Erin's first niece was born and Erin sat down to pen Delany some advice, should she ever move from the country to the city as her aunt did.
'Delany' is a modern folk tale of a child discovering the city for the first time, it's opening line 'Welcome to the land that won't sleep and never lies down' welcoming the listener to the 'Big Smoke', both the EP and the city of Melbourne.

DELANY’S SONG

Written by Erin Heycox and Lachlan Heycox.
Performed by Rare Child

Verse 1
Welcome to the land that won’t sleep and never lies down
Strap yourself and jump out of your dusty town
Take the scenic route and have a good around
Once you’ve come here, you may never want to leave

Chorus
Fly and catch your breath as the highway almost hits you now
Feel it’s steely breath, merge with it’s flow, don’t be afraid
No, don’t be afraid,
No, no don’t be afraid now

Verse 2
Welcome to the lights that sweep you off your feet
Spin with the crowd who can’t help but taste like sweat
When you get a moment, take a good look around
Once you’ve come here, you may never want to leave

Bridge
Misty rain hits you like sea spray
Roads are slick, a snail has trailed along them
Reflections change and distort your features
Pedal up, pedal down
Get home before the sun goes down

They grew up in rural Australia steeped in bush-bands and balladeers.
Rare Child’s songs of pet magpies and cautionary tales of venture capitalists wittily observe and chronicle their journey from the bush to the city.
